Seared Beef With Green Tea
Ingredients: Four 150g fillet steaks
Olive oil
200g green tea soba or regular soba noodles
2 tea spoons of sesame oil
1/4 cup (3 table spoons) miso paste
1/3 cup (80ml) mirin (Japanese rice wine)
4 spring onions thinly sliced diagonally
2 tea spoons slightly toasted sesame seeds

Brush each fillet steak with oil and season. Heat up a frying pan or a grill pan, and cook the steaks for three minutes on each side at high temperature. Fry according to your beef preference, and when satisfied remove the steaks and cover them loosely with foil. Allow them to cool down for five minutes.

Meanwhile, cook your noodles and cool it by rinsing it under a running cold water tap. Drain your noodles and transfer them to a large bowl. Toss the noodles with sesame oil and set it aside.

Stir miso and mirin in another pan at medium temperature, and whisk them till they appear smooth. Slice the steaks left standing into thin slices, preferably diagonally, and toss the strips with noodles, miso dressing and spring onion. Dress your salad with sesame seeds (interchangeable with any other topping of your choice).

Used by Chinese for at least 4,000 years, green tea is a herb of undeniable value. Cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, immune system issues, cardio vascular diseases, high cholesterol levels are various types of infections have been cured by green tea.

Green tea is leagues ahead in controlling cancer to a certain extent as the anti-oxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in it inhibits the growth of cancerous cells. EGCG is able to identify cancer cells, and attacks only them without harming the healthy cells flanking the carcinogenic ones.

Another important function carried out by green tea is its improvement of good cholesterol (HDL) : bad cholesterol (LDL) ratio. Anti-oxidant EGCG is responsible for this too, apart from stalling the formation of abnormal blood clots.

For green tea herbs to work their magic, they have to be cooked such that they do not lose those chemical compounds that make them special. Green tea is prepared by steaming the leaves of the herb. When green tea is incorporated into dishes, care must be taken to avoid draining EGCG out of them.

Red meat is acknowledged to be a rich source of proteins and minerals that are required by the human body. Beef stands elevated over its peers as it contains high levels of proteins and low quantities of fat. Other meats contain comparatively high levels of saturated fats. An ounce of beef contains about a gram of fat, unsaturated at that. The lack of saturated and trans fats makes it a favorite among those on weight loss and body building missions.

Beef contains high concentration of proteins that participate in various processes that maintain, repair and develop cells. Three ounces of beef can fulfill a third of the day’s protein intake allotment for both men and women. Apart from proteins, beef contains relatively smaller quantities of various vitamins, including vitamins B6, B16, K; thiamin, riboflavin and pantothenic acids.

Beef also consists of various minerals that make it an athlete’s delight. Zinc, iron, magnesium, selenium, copper and potassium are the minerals found in small but essential levels.

To enjoy the benefits of this nutrient-packed goodness, select your cuts carefully. Do not fling the first pack of beef you come across into your cart, check for even fat striations on the cuts, and check if the cut is supple. If cuts give in to slight application of pressure, you know that they are fresh. Watch out for rancid smell emanating from meat, and immediately trash the meat.

Both beef and green tea can be stored for long periods of time, and you can choose to make a salad any time you feel the inclination to. The salad caters to a significant part of a day’s nutritional consumption, apart from protecting your body from within against a horde of ailments. Experiment with recipes including green tea herb or beef to keep yourself healthy with little effort. A few minutes of extra care when preparing a meal is a small investment for a life of health.
