There’s nothing quite as soothing as a hot cup of green tea on a stressful day. The world seems to slow down and life’s problems just seem a lot smaller. The fact that green tea also happens to taste good and is beneficial for our health is just another happy benefit associated with it. But just like with any drink, some variation is needed in order to keep things interesting. There are times when you might want the health benefits tied to green tea but you want something more than a simple brew.
One way to get your green tea fix is to have it in the form of a smoothie. It’s really cool and refreshing and it’s perfect for the hot summer months as well. Of course, it’s important to use fresh brews and to avoid powdered varieties so that all of the antioxidants in the green tea stay intact. Here’s a delicious green tea smoothie recipe that’s fresh and tasty and still has all of the health benefits associated with brewed tea.
2 bags of green tea (the type of green tea is up to you)
1 cup of hot water
1 cup of ice
2 tbsp. of orange juice
2 cups of strawberries
2 tbsp. of liquid honey
1 high quality blender
How To Make the Green Tea Smoothie:
1. Brew the 2 tea bags in the cup of water until the brew is thick and opaque. The reason that you have two bags in one cup is to prevent too much dilution later in the process. A lot of other flavors are added later on and it’s important that the tea itself doesn’t get overshadowed. 2. Once the tea is brewed, place the cup in the fridge for an hour.3. Put the ice, orange juice, banana, strawberries and cooled tea into the blender and then blend until it has a slushy and smooth consistency. Make sure that all of the ice chunks are thoroughly mixed into the smoothie. 4. Pour in the liquid honey and then blend again briefly.5. Pour the contents into a cool glass and serve.
The great thing about this recipe is that it really acts as a base for other smoothie flavors. For example, if you would like more fresh fruits in your drink you can add melons or blueberries into the mix. If you want a little bit of extra sweetness you can also add a few teaspoons of melted chocolate. This smoothie is also great for breakfast so if you want a bit more of a kick, you can put in a few spoonfuls of protein powder as well. The possibilities are pretty endless since green tea mixes well with just about any other flavor. However, it’s really important that you use high quality ingredients and equipment when making this drink. Great ingredients will enhance the flavor of the drink and the best blenders will make sure that they’re mixed together smoothly So the next time you want something other than a cup of tea, try out this exciting and delicious green tea smoothie!
